Check Collections Associate

Performs fundamental Check Collection department functions to ensure member credit unions receive optimal deposit availability and item image accessibility. These functions include handling and organizing non-encoded items/cash letters for sorter processing, handling and organizing pre-encoded items/cash letters for proof processing, repairing rejected sorter items, encoding via proof machines appropriate MICR line data on non-encoded and rejected sorter items, balancing non-encoded items processed on proof machines to cash letter totals, and balancing run files. Additional duties include Share Draft Returns processing which involves stamping, stripping, and qualifying rejected / returned items.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Maintain a working knowledge of general procedures, laws and regulations regarding share draft operations.
- Prepare non-encoded cash letters for sorter processing by accurately documenting work received from member credit unions, organizing batch and block items, and encoding appropriate MICR line data via proof machines. Balance the encoded item and the dollar totals to those amounts appearing on the cash letters. Meet or exceed proof productivity and accuracy standards.
- Prepare pre-encoded cash letters for sorter processing by accurately documenting work received from member credit unions and organizing batch and block items.
- Repair rejected sorter items by attaching MICR strip and encoding the routing numbers and the dollar amounts of the items. Balance the encoded item and the dollar totals to the appropriate report. Meet or exceed proof productivity and accuracy standards.
- Balance batches ran through sorters and electronically repair item data and image quality and remove non-negotiable and foreign items from deposits. Electronically adjust batch ticket placement to ensure proper balancing.
- Stamp Share Draft Return items with the appropriate return code and attach MICR strip.
- Qualify Share Draft Return items by the bank of first deposit. Encode via proof machines the routing numbers and the dollar amounts of the returned items and balance the encoded item and the dollar totals to the appropriate report. Meet or exceed proof productivity and quality standards.
- Proactively enhance knowledge of functions and processes within the Check Collection department.
- Assist with preparation of deposited items being returned to credit unions, if required.
- Insert outgoing mail into the outgoing credit union bags according to outgoing courier manifests, if required.

Education and/or Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One year business experience including six months of numeric data entry experience.
- Experience with reader sorter preferred.
- Excellent time management skills along with good organizational, interpersonal and mathematical skills. Work a flexible schedule and overtime to correspond with variable workload.
