Software Engineer - Members Health Network - Albany, NY

SUMMARY
This is a new position offering the applicant a unique opportunity in software development – the opportunity to be at the ground floor of a new set of technology-based services for financial institutions.   First and foremost, we seek a very strong, analytical, delivery-oriented software developer.  Secondly, we seek an individual capable of architecting and designing complex technical solutions for the financial services market. 

Working within a new line of business of an established financial services firm, the individual will gain the best of both worlds -- the excitement of a growing startup and the solidity of an established firm in financial services.

The successful applicant will be responsible for the development of sophisticated web services coming to market.  They will also have the ability to set the direction of the web services.  Skills required include elegant web design, development of scalable and dynamic web content, and secure web applications for financial services.  The position will go as far as the individual wishes to take it, with significant advancement potential based on results.

The team member will analyze, design, program, debug, and modify leading edge web software.  The individual will work with a small, tightly knit group focused on an emerging market in financial services.  

Services developed will be used in commercial and end user applications.  Services include expert web content, financial management, and integration of consumer health advisory tools.  It will also include secure transactional web services for financial service firms.

Using leading-edge programming languages and technologies, team member will get a chance to build new skills in a real world application.  Individual will also complete documentation and procedures for installation and maintenance. May interact with users to define system requirements as necessary.

The individual will possess strong technical background and understanding of leading web development technologies, Microsoft SQL Server, and dynamic web technologies.  As a Applications Developer, they also will have significant responsibilities in the technical architecture and design of our services.  Exposure to and some fluency in secure transactional web technologies is a plus.  Strong experience in the development of interfacing technology to a variety of proprietary and open host systems for web delivery is a big plus. 

The individual will thrive in a team environment, helping to lead junior developers and mentor other members of the technical teams.  While no management responsibilities exist today, we look forward to helping the interested individual to develop their human management skills for advancement in the firm.

SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE AND FLUENCY IN THE FOLLOWING TECHNICAL ENVIORNMENTS:

• Strong-to-Expert skills with C#, VB, ASP, .NET, HTML, XML, JavaScript, Adobe Flash and SQL.
• Strong design skills, with direct experience in well-engineered, pattern-based, multi-tier design.
• Familiarity with SQL Server administration.
• Familiarity with legacy host platforms such as dominant mainframe and mid-range back office systems.  Familiarity with standards based and proprietary message-based interface methodologies between host(s) and web server delivery.
• Familiarity with application-based security for the web.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• BS or MS in computer science or related technical field or comparable experience.
