Senior Portfolio Manager - Balance Sheet Solutions
Location Flexible

Manages multiple fixed-income portfolios for institutional clients on a non-discretionary basis.  Supports Executive Director of BSS, LLC – Advisory Services.   Involved with supporting other Advisory products including asset liability management and modeling, education and strategic sales support as necessary.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage the investment portfolio of investment advisory clients by adhering to all policies, procedures and regulations that pertain to the investment advisory business.
    • Use a “total rate of return” approach to the total balance sheet and more specifically, securities selection, sector allocations and tactical planning.
    • Participate in the Relative Value process supporting the sector analytics.
    • Participate in building Sector Allocation Strategies for each benchmark portfolio under management.
    • Identify clients sector allocation needs
    • Make recommendations moving the clients into strategic sector allocations and from less efficient allocations.
    • Monitor portfolio holdings and track investment/derivative risk exposures and performance.
    • Monitor daily markets for trading opportunities, conduct thorough securities research and analysis, and make daily trading recommendations and decisions, applying a sound relative value and risk evaluation framework. 
    • Add value to the clients through superior sector allocations and security selection.
  • Assist the Executive Director-Advisory Services in developing new balance sheet strategies and formulating portfolio and asset/liability strategies
    • Design and develop strategies using cash and derivative instruments to structure product that meets the needs of the client.
    • Research new asset classes and investment structures, as they are available.
  • Provide securities trading support on a back-up basis for all Balance Sheet Solutions, LLC product-based portfolios. 
  • Maintain dealer relationships and monitor trade documentation.
  • Maintain strong communications with the investment sales desk regarding investment activities and member needs. 
  • Support sales process.
    • Consult with clients and prospects regarding portfolio and risk management.
    • Provide guidance in ALM modeling, investment accounting and policy review.
    • Participate in workshops, forums and conferences
    • Write articles with technical and educational approaches to the products and services offered investment advisory.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

None.

Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge of fixed income investments, asset/liability management, and portfolio management strategies for liability-based portfolios is required.
  • Comprehensive understanding of total return as it applies to fixed income securities and financial institutions balance sheets
  • Strong quantitative, technical and analytical skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Client-orientation, and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Proficient in use of Bloomberg, Factset’ Fixed Income Manager and other investment systems.
  • Experience utilizing and trading derivative instruments is highly desired.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience in all of the financial solutions delivered by Advisory Services.
  • Experience with A/L modeling solutions including Sendero, Bancware and/or others

Education And/Or Experience

  • Bachelors degree in business, economics, mathematics or other quantitative field.
  • CFA or progress toward is required.  MBA is highly desired.
  • Minimum 3-5 years work experience in fixed income capital markets.
  • Experience managing investment portfolios with net interest margin targets and liability-based constraints.
  • Practical risk assessment experience including interpreting modeling results

Language Skills

Must be able to effectively communicate with management, staff, and clients in both written and verbal form.  Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.    

Mathematical Skills

Must be able to apply financial concepts and work extensively with numerical data.   

Reasoning Ability

Must be able to sift through extensive data to determine whether information is reasonable and accurate.  Must also be able to prioritize multiple tasks and find practical ways to improve the quality and efficiency of tasks that are performed.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Series 65 or the qualifying exemptions.
